Globalization

hahaha. we talked about globalisation in my media and communications tutorial this morning, coincidentally... we talk about globalisation again in History of Ideas lecture in the evening. i luv the short paragraph about GLOBALISATION Ron read us in the tutorial so i googled it and put it here. i so wanna share it becoz it think it's really clever. hehe

According to Wikipedia (2006), globalization is an umbrella term for a complex series of economic, social, technological, cultural and political changes seen as increasing interdependence, integration and interaction between people and companies in disparate locations of different parts of the world.

DEFINITION OF GLOBALIZATION

Question: What is Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana's death.

Question: How come?

Explanation:
An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whiskey, followed closely by Italian Paparazzis, on Japanese motorcycles, treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines! This is sent to you by an Malaysian, using American, Bill Gates' technology which he stole from the Japanese. You are probably reading this on one of the IBM clones that use Taiwanese-made chips, and Korean-made monitors, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singaporean plant, transported by lorries driven by Indians, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, trucked by Mexican illegal aliens, and finally sold to you by a Chinese.

That, my friend, is Globalization!

Am I the only one who find this interesting?

Old Kingdom

WOOOO~ i joined steph's family for dinner again. we had OLD KINGDOM!! THEY SERVE THE BEST PEKING DUCK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i hope i've proved my point
it's seriously nice. there were 9 of us, we ordered 4 ducks. u have to make reservation really early to get a place because their ducks are pretty limited.
firstly, the owner will slice the duck at your table. everyone will be given a paper thin pancake, then u put a small piece of cucumber and spring onion on it. then, u put in that neatly sliced duck skin + meat and some sause ... finally, wrap everything up and eat with your hands! BEST DUCK EVER!!! after that, the left over duck meat is made into another dish while the bones is used to make soup.
too bad i din get to take any pictures, because i thought it would be rude to take pictures of the food in front of them. if i have the chance to go again, i will definitely take the pictures. the duck is too mesmerizing. YUM YUM!!!!!!!!

after the amazing meal, me, Janet and Steph went to buy ice-cream from Il Dolce Freddos with uncle Richard. we bought a whole big tube which cost $21. expensive huh? but the ice-cream is too delicious. u will never get bored of the place. all steph's family members are big fan of the durian flavour. it taste exactly like the top range durian such as D-24. haha. they have been buying the ice-cream everyday since last friday. well, not exactly everyday, its juz that everytime i go there for dinner, they will have Freddos ice-cream for dessert.

omg... ball is next week!!!!!!!!!! i'm so not gonna fit into my dress if i continue to eat in this kinda manner *faints*

Dim Sum + Fiesta Malaysia + Boost

28 October 2006

we went dim sum in Sharkfin's House in a saturday morning. we booked the place days before or else we won't get a table. its more like a treat from me, jess, shan & yee for ivan because it was his birthday. anyway, the dim sum are seriously GOOD!!! we ordered quite alot. the final bill was $83. hehe. like my mom said, after she had tried the dim sum there, she felt the dim sum in Ming Kok is just so so. i luv the fried chiong fan!! super nice. then of coz, its the egg tarts there that's the biggest attraction for me. yee insisted to wait for the egg tarts before she had to leave for her Chemistry support lecture.

here are the droolicious piccies:

more proofs on shan being a big bully. GOT CHA!

after being full as a mofo, we met up wif Janet and we made our way to the Fiesta Malaysia. it's a like a fair where there were several food stalls selling satay, nasi lemak, curry, roti canai... there were stalls where u can play traditional games (congkak, wau, sepak takraw) and stall where u can try out the traditional attires. u felt like your are at some kinda buka puasa fair in malaysia. haha. however, needless to say, everything there was SO MUCH MORE expensive than malaysia. u have to pay $7 for a roti canai. wif $7, which is RM 15... u can have your WHOLE family eating at the mamak stall in malaysia. the fair was kinda disappointing, because it is smaller than what we had expected. anyway, the most interesting part is the performances such as Bangla, kompang, wu shu and tarian zapin... we luv the Bangla dance the most because it was the funniest!!!! i took a short clip of it too, supper funny. we din buy anything from there so we just sit back and enjoy the performance and the feel of being back in our home country, malaysia.

i am so patriotic

our last stop was Boost. shan suggested that we get a Boost on our way home. after she bought hers, then we realized that with the priviledge card i have, one can get a free boost on his or her birthday!!! woooo~ and it was Ivan's birthday! so, he gets a FREE Boost! just like that! one similar thought flashed through our aunty minds... which is ... "why don't we stop by every Boost store in the city so we can have many Boost and by the end of the day, we will be able to try ALL the flavours available!" haha. we didn't do that of course. haha. we even took alot of piccies while waiting for our drinks.

i'll know where to go for my birthday nex year

A Series of Unfortunate Events

it's been an unlucky friday for me *SIGH*
here are the unfortunate events that happened to me:

1) the weather today was dreadful!! the wind is strong, it was hella cold, and it rained! i have full day today and the last period was in Queen's Berry which is like 1000 miles away! i had to walk ALLLLLL the way there!~ pheeekz. melbourne's weather sucks.

2) the psychology tutorial today was pathetic, only 5 students showed up

3) i went back to palmerston for lunch. after i had my lunch, there's a flood in my bag AGAIN! the cap of the bottle was opened and since my bag is kinda water-proof so i had to reverse it inside-out to let the water out. all of my books are soaked! bummer. same thing happened yesterday during maths lecture. my Othello was destroyed, i don't think i can sell it for a higher second hand price anymore regarding the condition of the book now *ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!*

4) my camera went haywired...yesh yesh... due to the "flood" in my bag. i was so freaked out because the camera won't on. i'm so gonna need my camera for the prom nex week. if it's spoiled, i seriously want my mom to get me the latest sony one and send it over FAST! i mean LIGHTING FAST! anyway, after letting it air-dried, it's working fine now. well, i'm stil getting a new camera anyway.

5) ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LEFT MY BELOVED UMBRELLA IN THE EVAN BURGE ROOM 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats one umbrella which i love very much. DARN IT!!! *punches the wall*

6) HOW CAN I MISS OUT THE NOSE BLEEDING EXPERIECE??!!

Happy Birthday Steph

my prezzie for steph

27 October 2006

it's steph's birthday today, i bought her a scented candle earlier. well, what do you expect? i didn't get to go anywhere but to classes. i hope she won't mind. hehe.
i followed her to her uncle's place after HOI lecture. we were there pretty early so we watched "The village", thats a super fake so called "horror" movie. it's made to trick kiddos. not long after, her mom came back wif Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, i grabbed some as well. hehe. anyway, after that, we went for dinner in a restaurant near her uncle's place. it was a really posh restaurant and all the dishes are really expensive! most of them are $20+ per dish. the bill was $290 at the end of the day. i ordered seafood risotto with big tiger prawns and scallops... super awesome. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!! while i was enjoying my food, i started to feel a bit wattery in my nose so i tried to rub my nose wif a tissue then i saw BLOOD!!! OMG!!! then i thought it was gonna be alright but it got worse, more and more blood... i can feel myself swallowing the blood down my throut and the blood taste still lingers in mouth/throut. i started to imagine scenes from "House" again...geez... IT WAS HELLA EMBARRASSING! they were trying to celebrate Steph's birthday while i was bleeding my nose off. anyway, when i was trying to stop my bleeding by tilting my head back and by pinching my nose bridge, THE FUCKING WAITRESS COLLECT MY UNFINISHED RISOTTO!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!! so wasted!! there were stil a few tiger prawns i kept for the very last bites. sigh. what a day!! now i can't make fun of The Nose Bleeding Guy in lectures anymore. haha. back to my topic, we sang happy birthday and steph blew the candles...blah blah blah... the birthday rituals. oh yea, her uncle just bought a new apple mac book. we were laughing so hard because we were playing wif the iSight thingy. we took pictures with different special effects which distorts our faces, making us look like aliens and monsters. haha. then they e-mail my dad all thus silly pictures i took (-_-")
apple is too amazing...eeek... tempting myself...i want the iMac!

OMG!!! MY RISOTTO!!!

Hotty Alert

OMG OMG! can you feel it? can u? can u?

woooo... hotty alert: Ian Somerhalder!

jess told me that she saw a hotty starred in one episode of LOST, so when i was with ivan in library, i demanded to witness the hotness of this guy. i almost screamed in the library. after dinner, me and jess started googling and wiki-ing him. he's a major hotty... hands down. even after i'm back in my room, my hunt for his pictures and info hasn't end. i went through all his pictures galleries and drool like a kid in a lollies shop. he's the kind of people who looks amazing in EVERY angles! no matter what's his hair like or no matter what condition he's in, he's stil a hot motha fucka.
here's a brief background info about him (be prepared, hold your breath):
- Ian Joseph Somerhalder (born December 8, 1978) is an American actor, male fashion model and producer.
- He is 5'9. He has blue eyes and brown hair.
- His father, Robert Somerhalder, was a building contractor of French and English descent, and his mother, Edna, who is of Irish and Choctaw descent
- Somerhalder began his career as a male fashion model, with his mother's encouragement at the age of 10.
- He modeled in New York, Paris, Milan, and London. His modeling credits include Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Versace, Esprit, American Eagle and Guess?. He was the face of Guess? for two fall seasons. Although he continues to model with his agency DNA Models, he has also started acting.
- He was a main cast member for the first season of the American television series Lost as the character Boone Carlyle.
- His television work also includes appearances in shows such as Smallville (gosh, with Tom Welling!)

i luv this sentence from a fan site:
"A strikingly handsome player who proved his versatility with accomplished forays into acting and modeling, Ian Somerhalder possesses the piercing eyes and chiseled features that spell success in the more adult modeling world and the emotional intensity and shy rebellious charm that makes perfect teen heartthrob material on screen."

isn't that the most charming smile ever? (this is not a question)

wooo~ body

what are you brooding about, hun?

PS: don't you wanna scream out loud,"HOT! HOT! HOT!"? if those pictures are not enough to fill your appetite, here's a link for more orgasmic pictures. by the way, don't get yourself wrong, i'm stil into girls.

people from Albert House had flyers with Louis' face on them pasted all the way from albert house to trinity. haha. after school, when they were having drama practice, they bought him a cake. consequently i was there, so i went in and kinda joined the mini celebration. *blush* i was the invader who went in for free cake by taking pictures and singing the birthday song. haha.

Horoscopes

weee~ check out my horoscopes reading for 24th of October 2006 (Tues):

"The Bottom Line

Your internal dialogue is silent -- no one else hears it unless you voice it.
In Detail

Are you growing impatient with someone? If by this point certain milestones that should have been achieved aren't, then today is the day to speak up about it. Chances are, this person is completely unaware of your frustration. Step outside of yourself and realize that all your internal dialogue is muted -- no one else can hear it unless you voice it. Have courage to speak your mind and try to speed them along. They're more willing than you realize." (Friendster 2006)

DRAMA MEETING AFTER SCHOOL TOMORROW~ *rubs hands*

my drama class mates

it's true that i hate drama since day 1. i don't like the public. i don't like attentions. in fact, i hate attentions because whatever attentions that were drawn to me are never good. they are either because i'm fat or i'm ugly. i don't like faking things for marks as well. drama is just fake. besides, drama is graded subjectively... u have no luck or your teacher is an ass... you are screwed... and there goes your future down the gutter. *thinks* hmm... that sounds so much like me!

PS: Selamat Hari Raya for all the malays~ can i have some satay? chicken please =]

Sunday Fun

YAY! PODS! we bought alot of Pods because Safeway are selling them at a reasonable price so we sapu alot. i bought 4 boxes which i will be bringing back to malaysia for my friends.

it's sunday again! which means we have to buy...prepare...cook...eat...wash..all by ourselves. i luv sundays. i luv going marketing in Safeway. we have a typical aunty lifestyle. haha. i think it's healthy because:

1. we don't spend money on useless stuffs such as liquor or material goods. it's super cheap to cook at home. as for this month, we only had to pay approximately $3 per person for both brunch and dinner. well, one of the reason is we are big fans of HOMEBRAND (for those who don't know Homebrand, it's something like "aro" or "giant" in malaysia. so everything is much cheaper than other brands). let me show prove how loyal we are towards our beloved HOMEBRAND.

wooo. all the Homebrand stuffs accumulated over the months. isn't that impressive?

the loyal fan club of Homebrand

me posing for Homebrand

2. we learn to be more independent and mature. we cook and clean up afterwards. we do things which we don't do in malaysia because we will have maid or mom to do all the dirty work. back in malaysia, i only know how to eat and leave the dirty dishes on the table and retreat to my comfy couch. never help out in the kitchen. now i realize how much work it is to prepare a meal. we only hav to prepare once a week yet we run out of choices of dishes. imagine our mothers, they have to crack their heads to think of delicious meals for everyday. 3 meals a day! if they didn't cook well, we will complain. it's an enlightment for me. i will appreciate what my mom has done for me all these years more. be more grateful.

yee preparing and cutting the ingredients for the cooking later

WOAHLA~ looking very homely ain't? 3 dishes and one soup

3. we bond. our relationships are getting stronger everyday as we spend more and more time together. we help each other out. we been through laughter and tears together. besides, we take more and more stupid pictures together. we make fun out of everything. even one boring sunday can be fun because we are crazy. well, not as in "doing truth-or-dare" or "party 3 days in a row" that kinda crazy... juz... plain crazy.haha. more cam whoring pics! with pods and Homebrand products as props.

*split fingers*
